In between clients, we like to keep our skills honed. We do this by continually developing web sites in house. This gives us a chance to try out new concepts and new technology. Each of these sites are noted as valuable resources in their respective communities.

Tom's Type 4 Corner - Tom's Type 4 Corner After doing a comprehensive search of the World Wide Web, we discovered that there were very few comprehensive sources of information for the Volkswagen 411 and 412 automobile. This car was made from 1969 through 1974 and it's fans consider it a car that was ahead of it's time. It featured such modern features as MacPherson strut front suspension, monocoque body/chassis, and hydraulic clutch system.

This web site was revamped a couple of years ago and it now includes some back end programming. This programming, including Perl and server side includes(SSI), took careful planning and time when creating the site, but it utlimately makes the site easier to administrate and add in additional resources.

Type 4: Secrets Revealed - Type 4: Secrets Revealed For decades in Germany, the VW tuners have modified the VW Type 4 engine for use in the VW Bug. The Type 4 engine, first used in the VW 411/412 car, and later in the Bus and the VW/Porsche 914, provides a more powerful and reliable option to the Bug owner who wants his car to stay with traffic on today's freeways.

Although technically this is a simple web site with basic HTML 4.0 markup, this web site has proven to be a very popular site. Visitors from all over the world have emailed with comments and questions.

This site was also featured in the former "Total VW" magazine in their May 2000 issue. The author of this article states "The site itself is laid out very well and easy to understand..." The author recommends that if you have aspirations in building a Type 4, then this site is a great place to start.

Type 4: Secrets Revealed illustrates that you don't have to have a web site with a bunch of animations and sounds to attract visitors. It's the content: give the visitors what they are looking and they keep coming back.

EMPI Imp Homepage - EMPI Imp Homepage This web site was created in response to the inaccurate information we found being posted on the World Wide Web. For those of you who are not familiar with the EMPI Imp, it is a fiberglass dune buggy that is mated with a VW Bug floorpan. Similar in concept as the famous Meyer's Manx dunebuggy, and definitely a fun car to drive.

While searching for information on the Imp, we discovered that people were being advised to shorten their Bug floor pan 14" or 14½", whereas the Imp requires the floorpan to be shortened 12". This and other recommendations from "experts" left us compelled to set the record straight. We created the web site using original EMPI documents and years of research.

An unexpected growth from this site was the small section I had written about the steel dunebuggy EMPI had designed before the Imp. This steel buggy was called the Sportster and was available as either a two person pickup or a four seat Sportster. This section is continually growing, as it seems we are the only one with information on the Sportster. This site may be located into a web site of it's own.

Once again, this site doesn't utilize a lot of the "gee whiz" features that many others sites out there do, but it's proven once again that having good content and a well thought out design will bring visitors coming back for more.

These are just our in-house web sites. If you would like to see more of our work, check out our "Clients" page. That page will give you additional examples of how the Tuna Can touch can be applied to a commercial web site.
